Hurricane Disaster Response

For over 20 years FAVACA has worked with Florida's neighbors in the Caribbean and Central America to help build stronger communities. One aspect of this work has been in the area of disaster preparedness and management. Disaster management professionals and first responders around the region have received training and technical assistance from Florida's top experts. In times of crisis FAVACA mobilizes its network of state and regional contacts to coordinate and refer offers of immediate relief and is prepared to provide volunteer technical assistance in the reconstruction phase. Our extensive partnerships with governments, NGO's, community based organizations and international relief organizations provides FAVACA excellent networks for providing timely and targeted relief to disaster affected countries throughout the region.

Following U.S. Agency for International Development recommendations FAVACA encourages concerned citizens to provide monetary donations through relief organizations rather than collecting clothing and other items for donation. Unsolicited material donations may place an unnecessary burden on relief agencies and add to transportation costs. Monetary donations allow for the most needed supplies to arrive in the shortest time.
