The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) on behalf of the St. Kitts and Nevis Agricultural Youth Forum and the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI) requested the assistance of FAVACA to provide training on shade houses and protective agricultural technology for extension officers, farmers and students. IICA recently provided two shade houses to two secondary schools as part of their program in technology and innovation.
The Cattleman's Association of Nicaragua (Comisión Nacional de Ganaderos - CONAGAN) held their third Congress from July 23-25, 2012. The Congress brings together over 400 participants including leading dairy experts from both the public and private sectors from across Central America and hosts forums on milk and meat production, food processing, markets and a variety of other topics.
Greenhouses and protected agriculture have increasingly been established in the past several years and expanded vegetable production has created more opportunities for residents of San Jose do Ocoa, Dominican Republic. Fundation Sur Futuro and the Association for the Development of San Jose de Ocoa (Asociación para el Desarrollo de San José de Ocoa - ADESJO) requested training on protected agriculture, disease management, irrigation best practices, and temperature and soil management.

The Singing for Change Foundation is supporting egg production for small farmers in rural Haiti as a part of ongoing poverty alleviation efforts. Pictured here is the first of two chicken coops for rural communities one hour east of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Haitian NGO Royal Palm and FAVACA are working to diversify small farmer income through holistic sustainable farm practices.
